The heart of it

The hardest distance in this story isn’t the twenty-six billion kilometres to Voyager. It’s the few feet between Amina and her eleven-year-old son, Tariq, a boy who lets no one touch him but her.
To decode the signal, she will have to learn to understand him first. And that may be the harder science.
